This lesson introduces learners to the various external influences that can impact businesses. We start by looking at the PESTLE factors and what they include, we then look at Porter’s five forces before reading a case study on Morrison’s and the top four supermarkets in the UK. A 10 mark question with structure guidance and a concise model answer is included for students to look at and improve their own answers after peer assessments.
To consolidate the PESTLE factors we read a concise fact file on the housing market, students use this information and their own research to find out more about the housing market, and then feedback the PESTLE factors they think are impacting on the housing market.

This lesson introduces learners to the foundation of good customer services, this starts with learning about the sales process, each stage discussed with examples. Two 3 mark questions with model answers to build exam technique. A hilarious video to highlight the importance of customer service, finally a roleplay activity to bring the topic to life.

This set of resources (1x PPT and 8x word docs) can be delivered over 3-4 lessons and introduces learners to the importance of business planning with an emphasis on cash flow forecasting. We start by looking at what’s included in a business plan and the purpose of creating one, a group matching cards activity to consolidate the contents of the business plan.
We then go on to looking at the importance of a positive cash flow, and how to construct a cash flow forecast from scratch step by step (although this isn’t required it helps understand the topic well). Students then go on to consolidate this by creating a cash flow forecast for Ian Beale’s fish and chip shop, some further calculation practice followed.
This is followed by 2 x 12 mark questions, one on business planning and one on cash flow forecasting based on Ian Beale’s forecast. Both comes with structure guidance and concise model answers for students to peer assess with. Two links to kahoot quizzes on the topic and a box plenary to finish with.

This four lesson bundle starts by introducing learners to revenue, costs and profit. Each of these is broken down to the core, students will get it! Lots of calculation practice to consolidate this. A 9 mark question with a case study and model answer for students to aspire to and peer assess with.
A lesson with a game where students are in groups and must make the most profit by charging the best prices for their business, a live scoreboard to see which team is performing the best.
Break even is broken down to the core also, and again lots of calculation practice. A task to draw BE graphs, the spec doesn’t require this but it will extend their knowledge on the topic.
A case study where we look at the pros and cons of using BE and whether it is useful in a given context.

This double lesson introduces learners to the two main types of inorganic growth - mergers and takeovers. We start by looking at the different types of merging with their pros and cons. Some real life examples of mergers and acqusitions that have taken place such as Facebook and Whatsapp and more. We then look go through a case study on Dixons and Carphone Warehouse with a few questions for students to work on.

We start by clarifying limited and unlimited liability, with an illustrated example before going onto an interesting and concise case study about a sole trader who failed, then started again as a LTD company - a 10 mark question with structure guidance and a concise model answer for learners to use in self/peer assessments. This double lesson introduces learners to organic growth, we start by looking at the problems of rapid growth from the previous lesson before looking at the methods of organic growth and their advantages and disadvantages. We then go on to read a short case study on a ready meal manufacturer based in Bradford, who have grown organincally since 1979. A 10 mark question on this with structure guidance and a concise model answer provided, to help students peer assess against the criteria.
This is followed by a research task for students to find a company that has grown organically (link for poundland given if students struggle to find), they then present their findings back to the class - structure for this is provided too.

This double lesson introduces learners to price elasticity of demand - a tricky concept at first but this resource breaks everything down step by step with plenty of calculation and essay exam practice. We start by looking at the concept of elasticity with an engaging Eastenders starter, we learn the key formulas needed to tackle any PED questions before looking at examples of some inelastic products.
Students have the opportunity to calculate PED questions with answers on the board to show how answers are reached. We then go on to look at factors that affect the price elasticity of a product and apply this theory to a Nando’s 8 mark question - structure guidance and a model answer is provided for students to look at before peer assessing and responding to WWW and EBI.
